The Workforce Development and Skills Training Division is responsible for analyzing labour market demand and conditions across all of the sectors in B.C.’s diverse economy. The Division recommends strategies and approaches to meet B.C.’s training needs for the ever-evolving labour market. This is accomplished with the participation of B.C. sectors and business leaders.
The Division delivers various labour market and skills training programs to help British Columbians get the skills they need for good jobs. These labour market programs are funded through the Canada BC Workforce Development Agreement and the Canada BC Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA). The Division also develops labour market policy, detailed labour market information, and pilots innovative workforce development initiatives. The Division leads engagement and consultation with sectors to inform ongoing labour market challenges and workforce needs.
As part of its portfolio, WDST administers the Sector Labour Market Partnerships (SLMP) Program, which helps sectors identify and address workforce development issues. The SLMP Program works directly with sectors, regions and populations throughout BC’s diverse economy to help employers understand and respond to changing labour market demands, and ensures that training and education programs in B.C. are aligned with industry’s labour market needs and priorities.
To assist in the development and delivery of a wide range of sector labour market partnership projects and to manage internal processes and engagements related to program communications, reporting and other tasks as required. This position provides support to several program managers and to the Program Director.
