BC Timber Sales (BCTS) manages about 20 per cent of the province’s allowable annual cut for Crown timber, generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber.  BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C.

Data from our operations are used to help determine the market value of the timber harvested from public land and ensures British Columbians receive fair value from their timber resources. 

BCTS also supports government’s commitment to true, lasting reconciliation with First Nations in BC as we move toward fully adopting and implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The goal of BCTS is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system through auctions of timber harvested from public land in BC.  BCTS has three objectives supporting its goal:

This Posting is for filling permanent Land & Resource Coordinator Vacancies. An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and/or permanent opportunities. This competition is for Fort St James, Mackenzie, Prince George, and Vanderhoof.

Telework Agreements may be available dependent on satisfactory performance.  It is important to note that a significant presence in the regional office will still be required and for the first 3 months of employment you will be required to be in the office a minimum of 4 days per week.

The Ministry of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated water, land and natural resource management and cross-sector legislation, policy, and objective setting for land and marine environments. The Ministry has been created to support and enable natural resource sector wide integrated decision-making and provide a pathway to economic activity, environmental sustainability, advancing and balancing Indigenous reconciliation. Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision for land and resource management in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base. The Ministry will strengthen integration across the sector to mitigate, plan, respond and adapt our management practices, including a focus on effectively managing cumulative effects. The Ministry will advance cross ministry governance and bring together multidisciplinary teams from across government to address the most challenging, highest priority cross-sector initiatives and strategic priorities. The Ministry will be accountable for providing resource and geographically based information and analysis to support timely, evidence-informed policy and ensuring that decision-makers across the sector have the best information available upon which to base their decisions.

The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division works in partnership with Indigenous governments to advance modernized land use planning with community, stakeholder, and public input including operating and expanding Indigenous forums (e.g., Environmental Stewardship Initiative and Collaborative Stewardship Framework) and working with First Nations on collaborative stewardship of natural resources and monitoring of cumulative effects. This division chairs the Regional Management Committees and Indigenous forums throughout the province ensuring alignment between provincial and regional priorities.  This division is also responsible for conservation science, species and ecosystem policy, and coordinating provincial species and ecosystems at risk management and recovery actions across the province.

Strategic land use planning will help to bring clarity to the land base by determining which activities should happen where and will ensure land use decisions reflect other key considerations such as regional growth strategies, key transportation and infrastructure corridors, effects of climate change, etc. This function will be responsible for supporting the Regional Management Committees and Indigenous forums.

The Land and Resource Coordinator supports the Area Based Approach and is responsible for facilitating the implementation of initiatives that require working with diverse teams and cross-sector coordination.  This position manages the collection of complex natural resource data and is accountable for analyzing the data and developing options to support advice to statutory decision makers.  While engaging directly with a wide variety of stakeholders this position facilities and coordinates projects to resolve complex stewardship issues and support land/resource management decisions.
