The Role:

The purpose of this critical role is to provide strategic, analytical, and operational support for the continuous improvement of IG’s financial advisor compensation model. As IG continues to evolve, it is essential that the firm’s compensation model aligns with its overarching objectives and enables its strategy.

 

A successful candidate will directly influence the motivation and performance of IG’s financial advisors, driving both individual and firm-wide success. This position is integral to enhancing our firm’s profitability and growth trajectory, as well as attracting and retaining top talent as IG and the wealth management industry continue to evolve.

 

The role will involve detailed financial and operational modeling, conducting market analysis to maintain competitiveness, and enhancing advisor engagement. A strong partnership with the finance team will be essential to ensure accurate modeling that is integrated into the broader business planning process. Additionally, the candidate should be familiar with, or able to quickly understand, the regulatory considerations inherent to compensation for financial advisors.

 

The role will work closely with the existing VP, Advisor Compensation, as well as with key stakeholders from across the broader IGM ecosystem: distribution leadership, finance, the product & investment solutions teams, legal & compliance, and others. To be successful, a candidate must have the ability to communicate complex changes clearly to many stakeholders while understanding their interests.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Compensation model design & analysis

Compensation model design: You will be responsible for working with the VP, Advisor Compensation to ensure IG’s advisor compensation model economically aligns the firm and its advisors, subject to regulatory constraints and informed by industry norms to ensure competitiveness

Continuous compensation model refinement: You will work with the VP, Advisor Compensation to continuously improve the compensation model alongside IG’s evolution and industry changes

Financial analysis: You will be responsible for building, owning, and maintaining financial models incorporating advisor compensation into the firm’s performance against a wide range of financial and operational measures, working in partnership with the finance team to integrate these analyses into the broader financial planning process

Compensation monitoring & reporting: you will perform regular reviews and analysis of actual and projected compensation, both for ongoing monitoring and to support the annual planning process

Key stakeholder communications

Leadership communication: you will communicate with leaders across IG and related areas through both written materials and live presentations tailored to an executive audience

Operational communication: you will work with peers across the organization to communicate change, solicit feedback, and understand the broader implications of any changes for areas including operations, technology, compliance, finance, and risk

Advisor communication: you will assist in communicating compensation design, programs, and policies to advisors

Project management

Project management (continuous improvement): you will shepherd the continuous improvement of IG’s compensation system with an integrated perspective across all operations, technology, and other areas

Executive Compensation Committee: you will coordinate the Executive Compensation Committee meetings and help drive successful implementation of decisions through partnership with technology and operational partners

The following qualifications are required of the successful candidate:

University degree in a discipline with a material quantitative component (e.g. business administration or related disciplines, economics, statistics, mathematics, etc.)

Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in roles involving business strategy and financial and operational modeling (e.g. management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, corporate development, etc.)

Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability, sound judgment, independent and creative thinking with an eye for detail and accuracy

Demonstrated project management skills, including cross functional projects and various stakeholders

The ability to produce high quality work under time pressure and to work as part of a team

Specific experience in creating, owning and maintaining both financial and operating models

Specific experience in preparing materials for and presenting to an executive-level audience

Bilingualism is preferred, but not required

As this position is posted in Montréal, Toronto and Winnipeg, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The mandate of the Compliance Department is to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements affecting mutual fund and investment dealers, including rules, policies and by-laws of the self-regulatory organizations of CIRO, AMF and CSF, provincial securities commissions, insurance commissions/councils and other regulators. The Department works closely with Distribution Leadership and other management to develop appropriate corporate policies, identifies and promotes good business practices, executes business review programs to monitor sales practices, manages client complaint resolution processes and conducts branch examination programs.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Senior Manager, Compliance Investigations oversees a team responsible for completing complaint and supervisory investigations, including oversight of investigatory steps, complaint adjudication, settlement negotiations with clients, and follow up of issues raised in each case. The Senior Manager, Compliance Investigations is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to staff on sensitive issues, managing resources, ensuring consistent protocols and guidelines are applied, identifying trends and recommending process/ policy improvements and corrective actions. This role will also manage responses to regulatory investigations related to client complaints, including inquiries about Advisor conduct and supervisory issues and controls. 

 

 DUTIES INCLUDE:

Manage, coach and prioritize case volumes for a team of Investigators, Senior Compliance Specialists and Administrators in responding to and resolving client complaints and internal investigations.

Review of casework completed by the investigations team to ensure appropriate resolution and completeness of the review.

Report on apparent trends or recurring deficiencies and appropriate corrective actions. Identify and implement process improvements.

Respond to regulator (CIRO, CSF, AMF, OBSI) inquiries related to compliance investigations. Conduct appropriate research and investigation into issues questioned by regulators. Correspond with Advisors, Division Managers, and Regional Vice Presidents as necessary to obtain information and explanations in order to provide full and complete written reports in response to regulatory inquiries.

Develop effective relationships with Clients, Advisors, Distribution Leadership, Regulators and other key stakeholders to ensure the timely resolution of client complaints.

Attend regulatory hearings and/or other hearings as a Subject Matter Witness when required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 10 years of experience in a financial services environment

Leadership experience, preferably including staff performance, development, and coaching.

Post-secondary degree in a relevant business discipline

Completion of Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and other industry related certifications are considered an asset.

Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation or other related designations are considered an asset.

Knowledge of the financial services industry, including understanding of Provincial Securities Acts and the bylaws, insurance councils, regulations and policies of CIRO, AMF, CSF and other regulators.

Superior problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task in a deadline-oriented environment.

Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in the French language (speaking, reading and writing) is mandatory.

Knowledge of French and English is required to support clients and Team members within and/ or outside the province of Quebec.

Responsibilities:

Provides confidential senior level administrative support services to the Regional Vice President

Maintains appointment schedules and coordinates meetings (in person or virtual)

Manages email inbox and completes/actions tasks on RVP’s behalf

Proactively monitors calendar

Providing support and acting as a resource on assignments

Provides status reports on projects and other matters, tracks issues; prepares meeting packages and agenda, action lists, and minutes (as required); organizes documentation

Support and management of technology adoption

Prepares correspondence, reports and presentations.

Co-ordinating travel arrangements and preparing expense reports

Provide sales, process, marketing, and administrative support to the RVP and the entire region

Provides technology support related to BYOD; Help Desk escalations; general inquiries

Supports business development and marketing activities and strategies as required

Helps the execution of region client acquisition events (both virtual and in person)

Facilitating and follow up on PWPE cases by pulling documentation and completing intake forms, ensuring appropriate reviews/calls are scheduled (engage necessary stakeholders when required) and track and follow-up to ensure case and outcomes are completed in a timely manner

Must develop a strong working knowledge of Advisor Portal and be competent in running reports related to Consultant and region activity (i.e. BID reports, Client Acquisition, Unbundled Progress, LPP Progress)

Leads our National Service Centre strategy in the region by meeting with Consultants one on one to collect names; coordinate a single submission to Head Office, communicate steps to impacted parties and help to move clients over to the NSC

Supports and collaborates with all levels of regional leadership (RVP, DMs), employees (regional office, compliance, marketing, etc.) and Consultants, in many cases across multiple locations.

Region Office support including:

Collaboration with Region Operations team to set up workspaces and equipment requirements and facility management

Provides back up to region office reception duties as needed

Coordinates and helps to organize special projects and region meetings and events

Managing region budget/finances

Supports RVP in:

establishing a respectful workplace and promoting/creating a diverse and inclusive culture

Community support and involvement

Building a strong compliance culture

Ensuring adherence to corporate policies

Qualifications:

Business Administration Diploma or other Postsecondary degree in a relevant business discipline or equivalent experience, in addition to a minimum 5+ years administrative experience preferably in a sales or financial services industry

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent interpersonal skills to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and clientele

Service oriented with strong relationship management skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a great team

Ability to handle confidential information in a tactful and professional manner

Exceptional technology skills and digital savvy; able to support a digital environment, utilizing technology for document management, team collaboration, etc. required

Proficient with MS Office (Microsoft Word, Outlook and Power Point, Teams) at the advanced level, specific to PowerPoint using info graphics; intermediate Excel

Flexible and able to perform in a fast paced, changing environment
