Linkedin has quickly proven to be a fantastic social media site for business professionals to connect and find fresh talent. If you don’t already have a Linkedin account, then I suggest you make one right now! Click here for tips to get started.  

If you do have a Linkedin account already, then here are 3 things you can do in 5 minutes to greatly improve your profile and help you stand out from their 433 million users. 

  1. Create a Great Clickable Headline! 

Headlines give potential employers and connections the opportunity to see who you are before scrolling through the rest of your profile. Make sure it stands out! 

As Buzzfeed writes, “don’t be afraid to present your headline as a list.” As you can see, I have mine listed as “Web Content and Strategy Associate | Eager Young Business Professional” Screen Shot of Shay's LinkedIn page

  1. Follow Relevant Groups

Following relevant groups is really easy and a great way to connect with others, find jobs and find common interests. 

To do so, just click on “Interests” and “Groups.” Join the conversations and meet some new people!

  1. Request Recommendations on LinkedIn

Recommendations are a great way to get written references from colleagues and prove that you really are are great worker! To ask for recommendations simply go to your profile and click on the down arrow beside the “View profile as” button. A drop down menu will appear with “Ask to be recommended” listed as an option.
