Position 
We are currently hiring an intern looking for a winter term position, January to April 2026.  Candidates in an undergraduate program that will be returning to school after the internship to be eligible to apply. This position is responsible for supporting the Data Science team in Analytics and Data Engineering tasks. The student will assist in developing datasets, models, and reports which are used to understand our business and meet strategic objectives. This position provides a great opportunity for a university student to gain practical experience in the fields of AI and Data Science. 
  
Responsibilities: 

Designing and developing relevant datasets, reports and analysis for operational and strategic initiatives 

Work with data from multiple sources and databases (manipulate data, prepare data for machine learning) 

Analyze structured and unstructured data, organize findings and translate into actionable insights 

Learn various modelling approaches and understand how to evaluate best performance considering model metrics and appropriateness for business interpretation 

Collaborate closely with relevant teams to ensure models/solutions can be deployed 

Participate in the development, testing, implementation, documentation and continuous improvement of datasets and data models as a member of the Data Science team 

  
Requirements: 

Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Analytics, Statistics or a similar field 

Knowledge of SQL, Python, and Git 

Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, and/or other BI and reporting tools is a plus 

Exposure to cloud technologies (e.g. Google Cloud, Azure) is beneficial 

Good critical thinking skills – conceptualizing, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating 

Willingness to learn how to develop code as part of a team, including clear documentation and code reviews

Located in our Winnipeg office, the IT Risk team is critical part of IG Wealth Management / Mackenzie Investments (IGM Financial).
 
Reporting to the Director of IT Risk, the Intern candidate’s core responsibilities will include: 

Developing and maintaining IT Risk and Security Advisory documents and libraries
Assessing technology risk associated with 3rd party vendors, policy non-conformities and technology changes
Identifying and analyze data to evaluate effectiveness of security controls
Organizing and triaging incoming work
Supporting monthly and quarterly risk reporting activities
Providing support for internal audit and compliance reviews

 
The following qualifications are required of the successful candidate:

Enrolled in a post-secondary education program in a relevant technology discipline or designation/certification, or bring transferable skills and general knowledge of technology, IT Risk and/or Cyber Security
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proactive and self-motivated with strong attention to detail, problem solving, prioritization and organizational abilities
Proven collaboration and facilitation skills with cross-functional teams
Understanding of cyber security concepts in cloud, API, network security considered an asset
Familiarity with security frameworks and standards such as NIST, SOC2, ISO27001, CIS Benchmarks considered an asset
