The Peace Natural Resource District within the Northeast Regional Operations manages the Crown range program. The Ministry of Forests is the Province’s agency responsible for land and resource management in BC, which includes the protection of the Province’s archaeological and heritage resources. Operating on a provincial land base of over 94 million hectares, the Ministry ensures the sustainable management of range, forest, wildlife, water and other land based resources; works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies; and, supports activities that provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits. The Ministry oversees policy development, operational management, and implementation, and administers all or part of over 60 statutes and associated regulations.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food is responsible for the production, marketing, processing and merchandising of agriculture and aquaculture products, and food security. The Ministry’s Plant and Animal Health Branch supports the sustainability of animal and plant agriculture, while serving to protect the well-being of the people of the province through surveillance, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and the development of strategies to mitigate identified risks. The Branch consists of the Animal Health Centre, the Plant Health Unit, and the Business Unit.
The Extension and Support Services Branch identifies and promotes agriculture and food production/processing systems that are sustainable and enhance the economic benefits to the province. It maintains operations in all agriculture regions of the province to deliver Ministry programs and services through a network of Regional Agrologists, Land Use Planners, Industry Specialists, and other technical Specialists. The Branch works through a variety of strategic partnerships and is the primary point of contact for the Ministry’s agriculture clients, both businesses and associations. The Branch also provides professional Agrologist support to local government planning and emergency response processes, and to both the Agricultural Land Commission and the Farm Industry Review Board.
The Resource and Environment Unit provides legal advice and opinions for those government clients whose programs provide for the protection, management of the environment, forests, natural resources, mines and minerals, energy, agriculture and food, water and wildlife, as well as escheats matters. Lawyers may also represent such clients before administrative tribunals.
