Woman Leaders Create More Jobs

Although just 2.7% of companies with a woman CEO were backed by venture capitalists between 2011 and 2013, a new study shows that woman entrepreneurs are growing their businesses at higher rates than their male counterparts – and this means more job creation!

The average global growth rate for companies run by females sat at 10.9%, and 8.3% for men. The growth rates even surprised the women themselves, as female leaders hired for more new roles over the year than they had expected.

The People Making a Difference

It’s time the world to recognized that women in business mean business! As Ciiru Waweru-Walthaka, the CEO of Funkidz Limited says, “for some reason, women businesses are treated like hobbies.” Brushing female ideas off as cute is normalized in our society, and it’s these attitudes that keep great ideas from making a difference in the world.

Thankfully, more and more big players are stepping away from this belittling thought pattern. Dina Habib Powell from Goldman Saks says “what was once a social justice issue is now smart economics.” She is part of the Goldman Saks team that put on  the 10,000 women initiative to help empower women like Ciiru.  Watch this short video to learn more about the initiative:
