Q and A with the Summer Students

The summer is already almost over, so we thought it would be a good time to reveal one of the students who was behind all of the social media and blogs you saw over the past 3 months.

Meet Shay White – she is a 3rd Year Management student at the University of British Columbia Okanagan with a plan to specialize in accounting. She can often be found talking a bit too loudly in quiet spaces and eating dessert at Moxies.

What drew you to Women in Leadership Foundation? I think that empowering girls and women is one of the most powerful things anyone can do. When you teach girls that they can do anything, they go on to do amazing things as women. Women in Leadership is a great place to then give women the opportunities to do those amazing things and celebrate their achievements. Their mission is really what drew me to this job and the foundation.

What do you hope to do in the future? I’m totally unsure. I’m mostly trying to keep my doors open and take every opportunity I possibly can. Like I’d love to work for an accounting firm someday, but I also would love to get into music production. There’s so many things I am interested in and love to do, so I guess my hope is to find a way to do it all!

What is some of the best advice you’ve been given from a female role model in your life? I think the best piece of advice I’ve gotten from both my parents is that I can do whatever I want as long as I put in the effort and keep that drive for success. They’ve always supported whatever goal I’ve strived towards and pushed me to do my best. Specifically from my mom, I’ve learned that as long as I keep working hard with love and compassion in my heart and mind, then I will get anywhere I want.
