The mandate of the Compliance Department is to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements affecting mutual fund investment dealers, insurance and mortgage business partners, including rules, policies, and by-laws of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), the AMF, the CSF, provincial securities commissions, insurance commissions/councils and other regulators. The Department works closely with Distribution Leadership and other management to develop appropriate corporate policies, identifies, and promotes good business practices, executes business review programs to monitor sales practices, manages complaint resolution processes and conducts branch examination programs. 

 

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:   

The mandate of the Compliance Department is to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements affecting mutual fund investment dealers, insurance and mortgage business partners, including rules, policies, and by-laws of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), the AMF, the CSF, provincial securities commissions, insurance commissions/councils and other regulators. POSITION SUMMARY:   

The Senior Compliance Specialist reviews trade activity through daily and monthly reporting, analyzing transactions to identify trends and patterns to detect deficiencies and risks. In addition, the Senior Compliance Specialist may perform ad hoc analysis and reporting in response to specific inquiries from leadership.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Using a risk-based approach, review the compliance dashboard in transact on a daily basis for the purpose of assessing suitability and reasonability of trades.

Identify unusual trends through the analysis of daily and monthly trade reports requiring the application of various skill sets including a strong understanding of sales practices, regulatory requirements, compensation and financial planning principles.

Identify items of interest and bring forward to the Tier 1 Compliance Managers and other compliance partners as needed.

Mentor and provide guidance to staff on unusual, sensitive and escalated cases, and determine appropriate corrective action plans.

Active involvement in projects and other compliance initiatives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

4+ years experience in the securities/mutual fund industry, preferably with exposure to a compliance environment.

Completion of a post-secondary degree in a relevant business discipline

Must be willing to agree to complete courses for Supervisor registration with CIRO.

Sound knowledge and experience with various types of investment products and investment platforms.

Demonstrated proficiency in effective verbal and written communication across various organizational levels.

Strong communication skills in English. French communication skills would be an asset.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and deal with interruptions while working within strict deadlines.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access as well as internal IG client systems (SAS, Transact, Advisor Portal, Trex)

Department Summary:

The National Sales Team in the Investment Solutions business (IG Investments) oversees distribution of all IG Investments products & solutions.  Additionally, Investors Group Securities Inc. (IGSI) is a securities investment dealer, registered throughout Canada. IGSI accommodates and administers the diverse brokerage product and service needs of HNW clients referred by IG Wealth Management Advisors.  The Research Analyst Team is responsible for overseeing individual large cap securities models for Canada and United States.

 

Position Summary:

The Securities Research Analyst (SRA) is responsible for research, analysis, and recommendations to the Canadian & U.S models.  This team works as generalists covering multiple geographies, sectors and names.  The SRA is responsible for coverage, buy & sell recommendations to the leadership team and committee, while providing rationale from research reports available.  The SRA is also responsible to take inbound requests from securities licensed advisors at IG to ensure proper due diligence is conducted in their recommendations.  The Team Lead is responsible for leadership, coaching and integrity of research and upkeep of changes.  The Team Lead is responsible for adhering to a high standard of quality and articulating rationale proactively to securities licensed advisors at IG.  Additionally, the Team Lead is responsible for creation and implementation of asset transition process for potential recruits, with a goal of providing seamless experience, while collaborating with other functional areas.

 

Duties Include:

Demonstrate strong leadership skills in leading research analysts with a high level of focus on quality

Implement national meetings with securities licensed advisors to keep them up to date of rationale for buys/sells

Develop data base to ensure the right research is accessed to deliver an objective view on individual securities

Demonstrates strong stock selection and decision-making expertise

Strong financial and modelling skills

Has a deep sector perspective and is able to develop, explain and articulate his/her perspective

Broad understanding and relationship of macro-economic, geopolitical, and world issues and how they influence the sectors under coverage and formulates view

Regularly pitches timely high conviction and actionable investment recommendations and sector ideas

Conducts own independent research and develops differentiated insights including unique and innovative analysis, supported by data, and presents findings with conviction

Publishes reports that include in-depth and critical research/analysis and investment rationale which stimulates discussion, actionable ideas, and a move to action

Seen as a credible communicator and can articulate and influence others to own point of view

Exhibits confidence and conviction when presenting ideas

Uses differentiated insight into sector to collaborate with other analysts for a broader understanding of a subject

 

Qualifications:

5-7 years in the securities industry in a leadership role and/or providing client portfolio analysis, recommendations, and trade advice

Passionate about leading and rolling up the sleeves and playing a team captain role

Valid Securities License with Securities Commission(s) – Registered Representative/Investment Advisor category

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation

University Degree, Canadian Investment Manager (CIM), Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) or other securities industry credentials an asset

Strong Microsoft PC (Excel & Power Point) software skills, Thomson Reuters Eikon, and Morningstar Advisor Workstation knowledge and experience is an asset

Good standing in Continuing Education (CE) credits

Excellent interpersonal skills, ethic, and excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and oral in French and in English

Working knowledge of capital markets with a deep curiosity in subject matter
