BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Forest Technologist acts with specialized knowledge and training regarding the practice of professional forestry when performing a wide variety of functions including: planning, engineering, timber sales and silviculture activities.

Job Requirements:
- Graduation with a diploma or a degree in resource or forestry management.
- Registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or Registered Professional Forester (RPF) AND a minimum of two years of experience in operational field forestry activities,
or - Enrolled, or eligible for immediate enrollment, with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a forest professional in training (TFT, ASTFT, FIT, ASFIT), for the purpose of obtaining an RFT or RPF designation AND a minimum of four years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
- Timber harvesting cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Harvest operations
- Compliance and enforcement
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Applicants with specific forestry activities experience, such as timber harvesting cut-block development, forest road engineering, silviculture and/or harvest operations.
- Applicants with contract administration experience.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
We currently have four (4) positions available.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Peace-Liard Business Area, Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
Dawson Creek is a historical and beautiful town, with outdoor activities like bird watching and hiking past waterfalls in alpine meadows and mountains ridges. Camping and fishing spots can be found in the provincial parks of Swan Lake and Kiskatinaw. Downhill and cross-country skiing at the nearby Bear Mountain is popular with locals and those in nearby towns.
British Columbia’s oldest interior community, Fort St. John is perfect for scenic drives, hiking, fishing, and camping, as it sits alongside the Peace River. Hiking is particularly nice in the surrounding provincial parks of Beatton Provincial Park and Charlie Lake Provincial park, where camping is also available. Its gentle rolling hills are perfect for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months.

You must be registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with FPBC.
