Reporting to the Trails Manager or senior included supervisor, the Authorizations Specialist is focused on analysing resource issues, interpreting legislation, policy and standards, and planning and directing the technical operations for the Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) Authorizations program. In future this position may supervise a team of resource technologists to deliver services.

The Authorizations Specialist will focus on managing authorizations on the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) Trail and other recreation trails as directed by the Trails Manager. These authorizations include authorizations for business, commercial or industrial use according to the Forest Recreation Regulation; volunteer trail maintenance through partnership agreement, annual operating plan, and those under the Forest and Range Practices Act. The position will also support engineering staff in managing authorizations associated with KVR Trail improvement projects to the trail right of way and associated bridges, tunnels, retaining walls and other infrastructures.
 

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in natural resource management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated increasing experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a Criminal records check, and/or Criminal records Review Act (CCRA) check and/or enhanced screening checks as required by the Ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to # days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is a temporary position until March 31, 2026
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Biweekly Isolation allowance may apply.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
