As a member of the project delivery team, the Assistant Project Manager is responsible for project management duties for small to medium scale highway construction and rehabilitation projects. Projects may include bridge structures replacement, resurfacing, rehabilitation, paving and improvements to arterial roads and/or low to medium-complexity construction projects on provincial highways. The Assistant Project Manager may also manage components of large-scale capital projects under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager. 

All projects managed by the Assistant Project Manager are strictly controlled within a defined scope, schedule and budget based on the ministry’s business plans. The Assistant Project Manager is responsible and accountable to deliver projects within approved scope, schedule and budget.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Geography, Business/Commerce, Urban Planning, Project Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Public Administration, or related field and 1 year related experience; OR 
  • Diploma in Geography, Business/Commerce, Urban Planning, Project Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Public Administration, or related field and a minimum of 2 years related experience; OR 
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent plus 5 years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
     

* Related project management experience will be defined as experience in:

  • Project management, coordination, or administration; OR
  • Management of infrastructure planning, design or construction projects; OR
  • Civil design or construction; OR
  • Experience in directing and managing the work of contracted and/or staff resources.
     

Preference may be given to any of the following:

  • Experience working in the transportation industry.
  • Experience in highway operations
  • Experience consulting with First Nations.
  • Experience in community consultation and engagement 
  • Project Management Professional designation (PMP)

Provisos:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5, BC Driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

About this Position:

Up to 2 Positions currently available in Prince George.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and/or temporary opportunities in Prince George, Terrace, Fort St. John and Smithers.
