The Team:
The Fort St John Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) team consists of 6 Clinicians and an experienced and supportive Team Leader dedicated to making a meaningful impact in their community. This team is co-located with other Ministry of Children and Family Development services, and works closely with Northern Health, the local School District, a contracted psychiatrist and other community partners to provide a wide range of mental health supports for children, youth, and families facing moderate to severe mental health concerns. Known for their flexibility, creativity, and collaborative spirit, this team welcomes new members warmly and provides strong training and mentorship, ensuring they feel supported as they grow in their roles.
The dynamic South Peace CYMH team consists of 1 Team Leader with 6 Clinicians based in Dawson Creek and 1 Clinician based in Chetwynd. This team is co-located with other Ministry of Children and Family Development services, works closely with a contracted psychiatrist, and was included as one of the recently announced Pathway to Hope locations. The team is excited to be working collaboratively to establish an Integrated Child and Youth team in partnership with the School District, Health Authority, and local Indigenous communities.
The Role:
As a Clinician you will play a key role in supporting positive mental health outcomes by providing direct services such as assessments, individual and group treatment and related education to local children, youth, and their families impacted by mental health challenges. You’ll also build strong relationships with local partners to deliver coordinated and effective care.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Two years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
There are six (6) permanent full time positions available: Four (4) in Fort. St. John, one (1) in Dawson Creek, and one (1) in Chetwynd.
These positions are also posted as a Nurse 7 under REQ 118702 and an LP 5B under REQ 118703.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.

- Fort St. John: British Columbia’s oldest interior community, Fort St. John is perfect for scenic drives, hiking, fishing, and camping, alongside the Peace River in the northern Rockies. Hiking in the surrounding provincial parks of Beatton Provincial Park and Charlie Lake Provincial Park is popular, where camping is also available. The local hills are perfect for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months.
- Dawson Creek: Dawson Creek is a historical and beautiful town in the northern Rockies. Enjoy outdoor activities like bird watching and hiking past waterfalls in alpine meadows and mountains ridges. Popular camping and fishing spots can be found in the provincial parks of Swan Lake and Kiskatinaw. In winter, explore downhill and cross-country skiing at nearby Bear Mountain.
- Chetwynd: Lying Lying in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, Chetwynd is a rich and diverse community. Chetwynd and area offer access to activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, swimming, boating and fishing, as well as viewing unique chainsaw sculptures.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO APPLICANTS
Chetwynd is currently eligible for a retention incentive which is available to all regular permanent Social Program Officers residing in Hard to Recruit (HTR) designated communities across the province. In addition to the re-imbursement of relocation costs (where applicable), the incentive program provides the following:
- Up to a maximum of $6,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers in the SPO R18 to SPO R30 classifications* OR
- Up to a maximum of $3,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers placed in the SPO Growth Series (SPO Growth to SPO R24 classifications) **
*Full payment of the incentive is based on regular eligible classifications (SPO R18 to SPO R30) working in an approved location for the full fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). A pro-rated incentive payment may be provided to candidates who work a partial year and/or part-time hours.
