The Team
The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) is responsible for the provincial delivery of programs and services that support safe, positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families. In working with children, youth, families and communities, the Ministry promotes and supports the well-being of all children and youth in British Columbia – Indigenous and non-Indigenous – to live in safe, healthy, and nurturing families, and to be strongly connected to their communities and culture. The ministry works closely with Indigenous Child and Family Services (ICFS) Agencies, Indigenous partners, contracted community service agencies, foster caregivers, and cross government and social sector partners to deliver inclusive, culturally respectful, responsive and accessible services that support the well-being of children, youth and families.
The Role
The Executive Director of Provincial Practice – Support to Service Delivery Areas (EDPP – SDA) is a senior leader and member of the Provincial Director of Child Welfare and Aboriginal Services (PDCW) executive team. They are responsible for supporting the implementation of a collaborative, strength-based, developmental service system through the delivery of consistent practice leadership, direction and support to staff in Service Delivery Areas (SDAs) across the province. They oversee and are responsible for leading practice across all child safety and wellbeing services delivered under the Child, Family and Community Service Act, including child protection, family service, out of care options, youth services, resources and guardianship services. They provide leadership, advice and subject matter expertise across divisions and work with Executive Directors of Service to identify the unique needs of each SDA.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- BSW or MSW; or BA in Child & Youth Care; or M.Ed. Counselling/MA Clinical Psychology, or a related degree preferably in a social sciences discipline.
- Employee applicants who have a combination of relevant education, Ministry experience and who are eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act may be considered equivalent to the above requirements.
- Minimum 5 years of recent experience in a leadership role managing financial and human resources.
- Minimum 5 years of recent leadership experience in child welfare setting, including but not limited to the practice support, delivery and/or oversight of child welfare services.
- Minimum 4 years of recent strategic leadership, change leadership and influence leadership experience at the Director level.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience working with First Nations communities and Indigenous partners.
- Experience providing child welfare practice support and expertise in a service delivery setting.
- Eligible to be fully delegated under the Child, Family and Community Service Act.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
