The Team
The Office of the Indigenous Child Welfare Director (ICWD) is a new division in the Ministry of Children and Family Development set up to shift and improve BC’s child welfare system and create changes that align with Indigenous rights, laws, and priorities as part of a joint jurisdiction model of service delivery. The division will provide leadership and advice for services to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit families delivered under the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) and directly support the implementation of Indigenous jurisdiction.

The Role
As part of a tight-knit executive office, this position reports up to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and Indigenous Director of Child Welfare (ICWD). This multi-disciplinary position will be responsible for providing executive support services to the newly created division. This will include recruiting, developing communications, providing budget and financial support, developing service plans, and providing other support services to the ADM. As this is a new division, you also get the exciting opportunity to contribute to the creation of the culture, values and vision for this division.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 plus a diploma in fields like HR, business, or communications, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of administrative experience dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information and issues.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience managing a high and diverse workload effectively and independently.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working in a demanding, high-pressure role which required the ability to meet deadlines quickly.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience developing service or strategic plans for an organization.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience leading and managing projects using project management, change management, and communication frameworks.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in financial and budget management.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience drafting confidential and sensitive emails, briefing materials, reports.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience preparing written and oral communications, including conveying, interpreting, and presenting data and information to senior executives.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience with issues management including responding to issues, coordinating responses, and using tact and judgement.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience with leading and facilitating meetings in person and online.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience managing human resources including recruiting, performance management, employee engagement, recognition, and culture development.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preference may be given to those with:
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis), with the required combination of education and experience.
- Applicants who self-identify as LGBTQ2S+, a Person with a Disability, and/or a Visible Minority, with the required combination of education and experience.
- More experience in any of the above requirements.
- Experience working with First Nations, Indigenous peoples and/or Indigenous Organizations.
- Experience working in an executive office in Municipal, Provincial or Federal government.
- Experience working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
- Experience with managing finances and a budget in a BC Public Service setting.
- Experience recruiting in the BC Public Service with knowledge of the BC Public Service recruitment process and policies.
- Experience supporting an BC Public Service Assistant Deputy Minister or Deputy Minister in an administrative capacity.
- Experience with BC Public Service applications (e.g., iExpense, e-Approvals, TALM, CLIFF, RMS).

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a hybrid schedule as per the Telework Agreement upon discussion with supervisor.
