The Team

This collaborative and dynamic team is composed of six policy and technical specialists dedicated to driving waste prevention and reduction efforts across British Columbia. In this role, you’ll work alongside other leaders in the CC section to develop and implement impactful waste reduction policies and programs. The Role

As the Policy Specialist leading the Strategic Initiatives unit, you’ll drive key waste prevention and reduction policies that support B.C.’s communities, including rural and Indigenous communities, aligning with the goals of CleanBC. You’ll supervise and mentor a team of six dedicated professionals, providing strategic direction and collaborating with industry, stakeholders, and Indigenous Nations to create impactful solutions. This role offers the chance to support community resilience, foster local economic growth, and champion environmental progress across the province, making a lasting difference in sustainable waste management for future generations.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science, geography, resource management, law or environmental studies or similar area of education, and five (5) years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience in science-based policy and program development in resource management or environmental protection.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of legislation, regulation, policies and best management practices related to resource management or environment protection.
  • Experience developing processes and participating in stakeholder consultations for defining program policies or priorities and identifying stakeholder preferences and reconciling conflicts.
  • Experience leading and coaching teams.
  • Experience with project management of complex projects.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience developing or implementing legislation, regulation, policies, standards, or programs.
  • Experience working with First Nations or Inuit communities, Métis Chartered Communities, and/or Indigenous organizations.
  • Experience working with industry and stakeholders.
  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration
  • Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

  • Willingness to travel.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available.
