The Penticton Fire Zone team is a well-established group of 47 dedicated professionals committed to wildfire management and prevention. You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of roles, including Wildfire Technicians, Assistants, and Crew Leaders, fostering strong connections and teamwork. Known for their experience, hard work, and compassionate culture, the team values collaboration and cooperation to make a meaningful impact in wildfire operations and community safety.

The Role
As a Wildfire Assistant, your focus is to provide an effective and efficient response to wildfires through preparation, planning, and logistics management. You’ll play a vital part in keeping both citizens and responders safe, by balancing priorities and adapting to the fast-paced needs of the team. While much of the work is desk-based, there is variety in the tasks, and you’ll have opportunities for continued development and learning. This role offers a unique chance to understand how operations work behind the scenes, helping you see the bigger picture of wildfire response. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry or resource management, plus 2 seasons recent related experience; OR
  • Grade 12 plus 4 seasons in related experience; OR
    • Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management.   
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; AND
  • Minimum 2 seasons of demonstrated supervisory experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following: 

  • Certified as Incident Commander 4 or higher 
  • Valid class 5 driver licence.

About this Position:

This temporary opportunity start approximately February 2025 and ends November 2025 with the possibility of recall on a yearly basis.  
This position has full time on-site requirements.
