The Team

Provincial Centralized Screening provides province-wide child protection screening services in a fast paced, 24-7, rotating shift work environment.  There are multiple teams of dedicated social services workers including Directors of Operations, Team Leaders, Child Protection Workers, Senior Child Protection Workers, Support Workers and Social Program Officer Assistants.  The services provided by Provincial Centralized Screening have a direct impact on the well-being of children, youth and families throughout British Columbia. 
 

The Role

This is a challenging and meaningful role for a fully qualified child protection worker with C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Service Act and a minimum of 3 years of fully delegated (C6) child protection experience.  This is a great opportunity for experienced workers who thrive in a fast-paced shift work environment and enjoy providing clinical advice and guidance to child protection workers and wish to make a difference in the lives of children, youth and families throughout British Columbia.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care; OR
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare. Completion of a practicum in family and child welfare occurs in an agency/organization where a student had the opportunity to practice assessing the needs of children and families to develop and provide intervention services to the children and/or families; OR
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must request a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report to be considered for this competition.
    • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • Employee applicants who have a combination of relevant education, Ministry experience and who are eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act may be considered equivalent to the above requirements; OR
  • Degree in a Human Services field PLUS a minimum of two years of *recent work experience, within the last five years, obtained during and/or after completing the required degree; OR
  • Diploma/certificate in a Human Services field obtained AFTER completion of an unrelated degree PLUS a minimum of two years of *recent work experience, within the last five years, obtained during and/or after completing the required education.
    • Human Services fields includes: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Theology, Indigenous Studies, Education, or Nursing. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must request a basic report to be considered for this competition. 
  • REQUIRED:  Minimum of 3 years of fully delegated child protection experience.

 

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • Applicants with preferred education credentials AND in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)
  • Current C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA) OR Candidates who had C6 delegation and worked in a delegated child protection position in BC within the past 2 years.

 

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Demonstrated experience leading projects
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and providing clinical guidance to child protection workers
  • Minimum 6 months experience at Provincial Centralized Screening
  • Proficiency with PCS processes and technologies (ICE).

WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS:

  • This position requires shift work.  Current rotating shift pattern:  4 days on, 3 days off, 8.75 hours per shift.  The shift patterns apply to a 24/7 schedule which includes Daytime, Evening and Weekend Shifts.  As per the relevant collective agreement provisions on paid holidays and dependent on schedules, staff will earn hours toward additional leave.  In addition, there may be opportunities for overtime, or alternatively, compensatory time off.    
  • Provincial Centralized Screening is a hybrid work setting; however, staff must be able to work in-office on immediate notice if requested under the requirements of the Business Continuity Plan or when operationally required. It is important that you live no further than one hour from your designated office to meet this requirement when needed.  Those living more than one hour from a PCS location will not be eligible for a telework agreement.
  • Opportunity to work with families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.
     

 PLEASE NOTE: Applicants who re-apply within 6 months of a previous unsuccessful CPW final assessment (reference check) may not be eligible for further consideration.

About this Position:
There are three (3) temporary opportunities starting 03/01/2025 ending in 03/01/2027

An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent and/or temporary vacancies in these communities (ie Kelowna, Kamloops, Vancouver, Surrey).
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement
