The Team
The Strengthening Abilities and Journeys of Empowerment (SAJE) and Services to Adults with Developmental Disabilities (STADD) Okanagan team is a supportive, positive and resourceful group dedicated to empowering youth and young adults as they transition to adulthood. Formed in 2023, this new 10-person team plays a pivotal role in implementing the Strengthening Abilities and Journeys of Empowerment (SAJE) program, which was named by the Ministry’s Youth Advisory Council to reflect a positive and celebratory approach to the journey from youth to adulthood. Working closely with SAJE Guides, Youth Workers, Guardianship Workers, and other community resources, the team is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every young adult is supported in achieving their goals.

The Role
As a Navigator, you’ll play a vital role in supporting youth ages 14-19 who are in or from care or in an out-of-care status as well as youth and young adults with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and/or fetal alcohol spectrum as they transition into adult supports and services. You’ll coordinate with a wide range of cross-government partners both in-person and vitually, ensuring that these young individuals have all the information and support they need to make a smooth transition. Your ability to build trusting relationships and hold partners accountable will be key to creating a successful and sustainable plan for each youth. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work OR Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care; OR, a related degree in an identified human services field (Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Theology, Indigenous Studies, Education, or Nursing). 
     

    • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered. 
       
  • Minimum combined three (3) years’ relevant post-degree experience in both of the following areas:
    • Working in the community with youth or young adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and their families; AND
    • Working with vulnerable youth and young adults with complex needs (i.e., substance use, mental illness, homelessness, or youth in care or formerly from care).
  • Experience applying person centred, goal-based planning.
  • Experience coordinating interdisciplinary/cross sector teams, providing informal leadership and community engagement.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience engaging with Indigenous communities.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous, Métis, or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of virtual technology (MS Teams, Skype, Zoom, etc.) to deliver services and sustain meaningful engagement with youth, young adults, and families.
  • More than five (5) years’ relevant combined (prior to and post-degree) experience in both of the following areas:
      • Working in the community with youth or young adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and their families; AND
      • Working with vulnerable youth and young adults with complex needs (i.e., substance use, mental illness, homelessness, or youth in care or formerly from care).

About this Position:
One (1) position available.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
