The Team
The Strategic Policy and Research (SPRe) team in MCFD focuses on enhancing the ministry’s research capacity and building partnerships with post-secondary institutions, researchers, and the community social service sector. SPRe is also responsible for strategic cross-ministry and cross-divisional policy (including policy coordination) within the Policy, Legislation, and Litigation (PLL) Division.
The Role
The Senior Research Officer reports to the Manager of Research, SPRe. They are responsible for leading complex research projects across all eight of the ministry’s service lines – in support of the ministry’s strategic framework, policies, practices, and service delivery. They are also responsible for building and maintaining relationships, and managing research contracts with the ministry’s external partners, including post-secondary institutions, research centers, and other research partners.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration, social sciences, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in leading complex research projects.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in effectively managing multiple ongoing projects and competing priorities.
- Experience building relationships with internal and external partners.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- A Master’s Degree or a Master’s Degree in progress in public or business administration, social sciences, or a related field.
- Experience leading complex research projects in a government or public sector setting.
- Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods and tools.
- Experience in knowledge mobilization.
- Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous partners or organizations.
- Experience managing contracts and/or sponsored research agreements.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until February 28, 2026, with the possibility of extension and/or the position becoming permanent.
