The Team
As a member of the Investigations Unit, you will join a professional, team-oriented group of Investigators. Our team relies on each other to complete investigation tasks and works closely with other units and external agencies to ensure thorough and effective outcomes. The Role
As a Tax Investigator, you will plan, lead, and conduct thorough investigations on individuals and businesses suspected involved in the illicit trade of contraband tobacco under various Provincial and Federal statues including but not limited to the Tobacco Tax Act, Motor Fuel Tax Act , PST and the Criminal Code of Canada. Your role will involve reporting on investigation findings, establishing evidence to support prosecution, and ensuring equitable and just tax revenue collection for the province.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Certificate or higher in administrative law, investigation and enforcement, criminology or a related field. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three (3) years recent (within the last five (5) years) experience in a compliance and enforcement environment.
- Minimum three (3) years recent (within the last five (5) years) experience in conducting inspections or investigations.
- Experience producing written fact-based evidentiary reports of a complex and technical nature while maintaining confidentiality.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Current or previous status as a Peace Officer, Provincial Constable or Special Provincial Constable.
- Experience with covert operations and surveillance.
- Recent (within the last three (3) years) law enforcement experience.
- Experience with inspections or investigations in government.
- Experience writing, preparing, and organizing search warrants, Reports to Crown, Information to Obtain, Production Orders and Search Warrants.

There is one (1) in Surrey.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
