We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst – Corporate Planning and Analysis to join our team in VICTORIA, British Columbia, Canada.
The Senior Financial Analyst provides advisory services in the preparation of annual budgets; conducts proactive reporting and analysis of financial information; participates in the development and maintenance of a framework for setting, measuring, analyzing and reporting on financial performance; integrates the reporting of financial and operational results; and assesses and makes recommendations on the financial implications of new initiatives. The Senior Financial Analyst will also support the Budget and Accounting Analyst with system-related tasks as required.

Hybrid Work Model
This position is located in our Victoria, BC office. You will have the flexibility to work part of the time on-campus and part of the time off-campus. The requirement for on-campus presence is a minimum of 40% of your schedule in a month.
Additional requirements are determined by the role functions and operational needs of each business area.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and consolidates information required for budget development.
- Works with planning advisors in the planning and coordination of budgets, and guides processes for monitoring all financial targets, revenue and expenditure forecasting and reporting.
- Prepares and presents information for decision making on all aspects of financial planning and monitoring including operating, recovery, capital, and full time equivalents.
- Develops briefing materials for senior leadership which may include budget presentations.
- Plans and conducts activities within a timetable of critical deadlines and communicates budget instructions, policies and procedures.
- Identifies variances from planned expenditures and FTE utilization and provides explanations to facilitate timely decisions and corrective action.
- Reports expenditure, FTE, revenue and capital forecasts to senior leadership.
- Provides financial management and budget planning advice and direction including providing training to facilitate the understanding of new budget procedures or products for client managers and staff.
- Support the team with additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Must have
- Completion of a Diploma or Degree in the field of Financial Management or Accounting and two or more years’ related experience; OR
- Completion of a Business Administration Diploma or Degree with an accounting option and two or more years of related experience; OR
- Completion of Level 2 or higher of the Chartered Professional Accountant program (CPA) or legacy (CA, CGA, CMA) program and two or more years of related experience; OR
- Completion of Level 2 or higher of the Province of British Columbia Financial Management Certificate Program and two or more years of related experience; OR
- Completion of post-secondary studies that include financial or accounting courses and three or more years of related experience.
Related experience must include the following:
- Recent and relevant experience supporting stakeholders in the planning and preparation of budgets, forecasts and variance analysis of financial performance.
- Recent and relevant experience compiling large quantities of financial data and modeling in Microsoft Excel (macros, pivot tables, LOOKUPs).
- Experience communicating and presenting complex financial information to a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Experience with complex computerized financial systems working with reporting, budgeting and team dependencies.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered.
Nice to have
- Experience using Oracle Fusion is preferred.
- Experience working with confidential information is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with GAAP accounting systems and techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to translate complex financial matters into plain language key points verbally and using written reports, graphs, and formal presentations suitable for board level audiences.
- Analytical, problem identification and problem-solving abilities, including strong financial analysis abilities.
- Ability to develop complex computerized spreadsheets for analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of the application of financial management principles and practices and financial risk and control principles in a multi-user computerized financial systems environment.
- Ability to determine most efficient procedures to accomplish assignments.
- Ability to interpret and implement budget allocation and control mechanisms.
- Ability to work in a team environment and foster effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
