The Team
The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) mission is to protect fish, wildlife, natural resources and the public through law enforcement operations, investigations and responses to human wildlife conflicts that are a threat to public safety. Together with our primary appointments and our Special Provincial Constable authorities, we partner with law enforcement agencies, Indigenous Nations and all levels of government to protect our natural resources.
The Role
The Inspector of Provincial Operations, reports to the Deputy Chief of Field Operations. The role supervises Operational Sergeants, as well as has the operational oversight within a defined geographic region. Key functions include monitoring the operational aspects of the region, including monitoring of investigative and human wildlife conflict files, assessing risk associated to enforcement actions, safe work practices, reviewing and approving operational plans and their associated budgets. The position also provides quality assurance and audit functions and are responsible for ensuring work performance and initiating disciplinary action as required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Applied degree or technical diploma in a recognized post‐secondary institution which offers a program in natural resource law enforcement.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a natural resource law enforcement environment that requires the wearing of a sidearm and resulted in the completion of investigations and resulted in the imposition of penalties or sanctions.
- A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in a natural resource law enforcement environment.
- Completion of the Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy (WCLEA) or equivalent academy training in natural resource law enforcement.
An equivalent combination of education and related experience in law enforcement where the wearing of a sidearm was required may be considered. Related Experience means:
- Experience in a position with law enforcement powers specializing in the enforcement of a broad legislative mandate, such as environmental law.
- Management experience in a large, geographically dispersed organization developing, managing, and directing programs, including a professional and technical work force; and
- Management experience with planning, implementing, and monitoring program effectiveness, establishing priorities, and managing human and fiscal resources.
Willingness Statement: applicants must:
- Hold a valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
- Have successfully completed of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
- Have successfully completed of BC, Conservation Outdoor Recreation and Education Course (CORE) or equivalent.
- Have successfully completed and possess current Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent training.
- Hold a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.
- Be fully operational and able to carry out the duties of a uniform CO at all times.
