The Team
The Deputy Fire Centre Manager will be joining an established Fire Centre team, which is made up of fire centre operations staff.  This team’s work directly impacts the safety of communities across the region. The work environment is collaborative, with a strong focus on supporting one another and working towards shared goals. The Role
The Deputy Fire Centre Manager, Regional Programs (Regional Programs Deputy) works in conjunction with fire centre leadership and the provincial programs (prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery) to establish alignment and continuity in the implementation of strategic program objectives. This role leads senior technical experts to ensure provincial strategic strategies are integrated and operationalized.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • University degree or technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management/public administration or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in emergency management or natural resources management.
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders and partners to further mutual interests and address issues.
  • Experience leading and coaching diverse teams.
  • Experience in business planning, procurement, and financial management.
  • Experience in management and supervision of diverse working groups/teams.
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and/or overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.

About this Position:
These positions are excluded from union membership.
3 Positions available.  1 Position is available in each of the following locations:  Prince George, Williams Lake and Smithers. 
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. Flexible work options may not be available during emergency operations response periods. 
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent vacancies across the Ministry of Forests, BC Wildfire Service.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
