The Team
The Northwest Fire Centre operations team is an established group focused on supporting wildfire-response in the Northwest region. The Role
The Dispatch Supervisor oversees a team of two dispatch leads, four dispatchers and the coordination centre’s dispatch room. The supervisor is responsible for training and developing the dispatch team as well as scheduling work, defining work processes and participating as the communication link between field staff and operations. Flexible work options, including up to five days of remote work, are available during the winter months outside of the emergency response season which is typically March to October.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, public administration, business administration or equivalent, plus 1 year emergency response related experience; or
- Grade 12 and an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience plus BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) dispatch experience
- Related experience is defined as experience gained within BCWS, Emergency Response or Emergency Management and in an administrative environment
- Valid Class 5 drivers licence
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Dispatch related supervisory experience
- Incident Command System – Dispatch experience
- Supervisory experience in emergency management
- 2 or more years of BCWS dispatch experience
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
- To keep current on emerging issues
- To take in-house training and certification as required
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
