The Team
The Cariboo Fire Centre Prevention team is an established group within the BC Wildfire Service focused on wildfire resiliency, education, and mitigation. Comprising a mix of Senior Wildfire Officers, Wildfire Prevention Officers, a Prevention Specialist, and a Prevention Clerk, the team collaborates closely with various internal and external partners to manage funding for wildfire risk reduction and prescribed fire programs. The team is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where diverse perspectives are valued in working towards community safety and environmental health.
The Role
As the Prevention Clerk, you will provide valuable administrative support for various aspects of wildfire prevention, including tracking legal orders, compliance, enforcement, budget monitoring, and cost recovery. You may also assist in field activities related to risk reduction initiatives, depending on your interests and experience. This position offers a great opportunity to be part of a diverse team and contribute to important work that positively impacts the community. With opportunities to learn and grow, you’ll play a key role in supporting the team’s goals and gaining exposure to a broad range of responsibilities within wildfire prevention.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Experience working in an office setting and computerized systems
- Valid BC driver’s licence (Class 5 or Class 7) or equivalent
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
- To keep current on emerging issues
- To take in-house training and certification as required
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
- To be assigned or participate to Incident Command System positions and Incident Management Teams as required
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
