At Peace District Development Services, you’ll be joining a team that plays a crucial role in shaping rural and municipal communities. Our close-knit group of professionals, including Development Services Officers, a TELP Technician, and a Program Manager, is committed to delivering excellence in customer service and development initiatives. The Role
As a Development Services Officer at Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Highways Division, Peace District, you’ll work closely with local governments and stakeholders to ensure the safety, compliance, and integrity of our highway systems, directly influencing rural and municipal community developments. This role offers the chance to tackle complex and evolving projects, collaborate with experts across various disciplines, and lead significant Provincial Initiatives. Located in the beautiful Peace Region of Northeastern BC, you’ll enjoy a supportive team environment and the opportunity to grow as a leader while making a meaningful impact on the communities we serve.
Dawson Creek is a historical and beautiful town in the northern Rockies. Enjoy outdoor activities like bird watching and hiking past waterfalls in alpine meadows and mountains ridges. Popular camping and fishing spots can be found in the provincial parks of Swan Lake and Kiskatinaw. In winter, explore downhill and cross-country skiing at nearby Bear Mountain.
Fort St. John: British Columbia’s oldest interior community, Fort St. John is perfect for scenic drives, hiking, fishing, and camping, alongside the Peace River in the northern Rockies. Hiking in the surrounding provincial parks of Beatton Provincial Park and Charlie Lake Provincial Park is popular, where camping is also available. The local hills are perfect for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in a *related discipline and a minimum of one (1) year **related experience; OR
- Grade 12 or equivalent and minimum two (2) years **related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related discipline must include one or more of the following:
- Geography
- Land Use Planning
- Environmental Science
Related experience must include one or more of the following:
- Experience in land use planning and development.
- Experience providing project management services for multiple assigned projects.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships, with internal and external
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
- Post-secondary education in mapping, surveying, highway engineering, highway construction, land development/negotiations, transportation engineering, urban land economics, geography or site planning.
- Transportation related experience.
- Oil & gas related experience.
- Participation in TELP Program.
Provisos /Willingness:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
