The Ministry of Children & Family Development is a cornerstone of support for British Columbians, providing a wide range of essential programs and services to support all children and youth in British Columbia to live in safe, healthy and nurturing families and be strongly connected to their communities and culture. Behind the scenes, the Finance and Corporate Services Division plays a vital role in driving the ministry’s success. This division delivers critical business services that empower staff to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. By ensuring the ministry complies with financial, procurement, and human resource procedures, policies and laws, the division helps clients achieve their goals and overcome challenges.
The Financial Services Branch is a key partner in this process, working closely with ministry leaders to offer comprehensive financial management services. These services not only drive strategy but also oversee financial administration, ensuring the ministry’s resources are used efficiently and effectively.
As the Director, Business and Financial Management, you will be responsible for co-developing financial strategy and program delivery. This involves turning budget plans into action, developing a unified approach to support all ministry programs, and providing critical financial insights to deliver effective programs and services. This role provides the financial expertise and organizational knowledge that ensures that the Ministry’s strategic intent has a successful financial implementation. By taking on this pivotal role, you will be part of a team that is shaping the future of social services in British Columbia.
Job Requirements:
- Accounting designation (CPA) may be preferred; Degree in related discipline (e.g., Economics, Business, Management, Finance), OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and/or education may be considered.
- Five (5) or more years of experience including planning, developing, and implementing financial policy, strategies, procedures, programs, or projects.
- Five (5) or more years of experience supervising/leading staff or work teams, including developing and evaluating performance goals, coaching, team building, and mentoring.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in a management capacity in an accounting, budgeting, or financial management environment, which demonstrates increasing responsibility.
- Three (3) or more years of experience proactively providing expert advice, information and/or support to senior leaders on financial and program management issues.
- Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities and evolving issues, under significant time constraints.
Preference may be given to applicants:
- Whose required experience was gained within the last seven (7) years.
- With experience working in the social services sector.
- With experience working with public sector budgeting and forecasting.

- Travel, as necessary, is a requirement.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
