The Team
The Surrey Youth Probation team is an experienced, and diverse group of professionals dedicated to supporting young people involved in the justice system while ensuring community safety. With 8.5 Youth Probation Officers, a Team Lead, and an administrative staff member, they work closely with Child Protection, Youth Services, the Indigenous Youth Probation team, and judicial professionals to create effective interventions that reduce reoffending. The team prioritizes building trust with youth and families by overcoming cultural and language barriers, ensuring services are accessible and responsive to the needs of the community.
The Role
As a Youth Probation Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting high-risk youth and their families, helping them navigate challenges, make positive choices, and create lasting change. You will provide case management and supervision in accordance with court orders or agreements to youth with judicial orders, write formal court reports for judges and develop interventions that not only support young people but also contribute to community safety. Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
*Human Services field includes: Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience working as either an Adult Probation Officer or a Fully Delegated Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian Jurisdiction.
- Two or more years experience working with high-risk or at-risk youth defined as youth involved in criminal behaviours or activities in the community.
- Experience in a justice, educational or social service setting with counselling or conflict resolution.
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

There is presently one temporary opportunity available in Surrey until September 30, 2026. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This temporary posting is not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
