Reports to: Production Manager, Corporate and Plan Communications

Salary Range: $59,015.56 to $66,749.47 per annum

Union/Excluded: BCGEU

Security Screening: Required

We are seeking a Graphic Artist to join our team in VICTORIA, British Columbia, Canada.

The Graphic Artist will support various corporate and board products, including the launch of Wave 2 of the 20|30 Strategic Plan, brand updates and implementation, and internal and external campaigns and events.

We are looking for a graphic designer with a strong skillset in the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and the ability to interpret ideas and concepts into compelling graphics and products, i.e., infographics or digital media solutions.

The successful candidate will have an influential role on a small creative services team with room to grow. They will work with varied products and design projects and have an ability to influence creative decisions and solutions.

Hybrid Work Model

This position is located in our Victoria, BC office. You will have the opportunity to work part of the time on-campus and part of the time off-campus. Guidelines and requirements for in-office presence are determined by operational need and vary according to the unique needs of each business area.  

Responsibilities

  • Consults with clients to determine their graphic communication needs and audiences.
  • Provides advice and creative counsel on design options within budgetary limitations.
  • Searches for and analyses background materials.
  • Recommends project schedules to clients and ensures production of materials within established deadlines.
  • Produces and coordinates the production of products to industry standards through contracted service providers.
  • Ensures quality control on all in-house design projects.
  • Ensures that designs and computer files meet government and industry standards.
  • Monitors the technical content of the work of consultants contracted to undertake projects to ensure compatibility of documents.
  • Establishes and maintains image banks.
  • Keeps current on graphic art trends.

Qualifications

Must have

  • Diploma in graphic design or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.
  • Related experience must include:

          -Experience in a creative role on an in-house corporate creative team or with a creative agency.

          -Experience producing a variety of graphic arts products to meet client requirements.

          -Experience in photo selection and photo editing.

          -Experience working with print, digital media and multi-media.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in a regulated sector and/or financial sector is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of graphic design principles.
  • Advanced knowledge in graphic design software, including: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat; aptitude in Microsoft 365 environment, specifically PowerPoint and Microsoft Word; preference given to those with knowledge of a SharePoint environment.
  • Ability to translate data and concepts into effective graphics.
  • Ability to navigate complex corporate and/or public service environments; ability to foster strong working relationships with multiple business partners.
  • Ability to generate accurate results and work under tight timelines.
