POSITION SUMMARY

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Information Technology department is seeking a technical, innovative and collaborative individual for the regular full-time position of Full Stack Developer.

Reporting to the Project Management Office Manager, the Full Stack Developer (Developer) is responsible for designing, building, and supporting scalable enterprise web applications that meet the evolving needs of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. Working as part of an Agile Scrum Team, this role develops front-end and back-end solutions using modern development practices such as mobile-first and test-driven design.

The Developer contributes to all phases of the application lifecycle—from analysis and design to deployment and support—while ensuring technical excellence, performance, and alignment with business requirements. This position also plays a key role in reviewing code, guiding team members, and supporting database and data architecture strategies. The Developer collaborates with cross-functional teams, communicates technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and provides expert advice on product decisions, risk, and solution design. Through innovation, automation, and continuous improvement, the Developer supports the delivery of reliable, high-quality digital solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Post-secondary education in computer science or a related program, plus at least 3 years of related experience*, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. *Relevant experience may include:
    • Experience as a Full Stack Developer.
    • Experience using a variety of modern development tools, such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript libraries, relational and non-relational databases.
    • Experience with API development and integration and continuous development environments.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Working in an agile development environment with User Experience (UX)/Service Designer teams, Software Developers, and Scrum Masters to iteratively create or improve digital products and services from conception to production.
  • Utilizing software development best practices such as: simplicity, coherence, testing, maintenance, and analysis.
