The Team
As a Senior Technical Architect at RoadSafetyBC, you’ll join a dynamic team driving the future of road safety in British Columbia. RoadSafetyBC sets the strategic direction and regulates the safe operation of motor vehicles across the province. Our Business Transformation and Portfolio Operations team plays a crucial role in supporting key initiatives by providing expertise in technical modernization, data analysis, project management, change management, and contract oversight. This collaborative team works closely with partners, offering consulting, education, and capacity-building to ensure sustainable success.

The Role
To lead the architectural design and technical strategy for RoadSafetyBC’s critical systems, overseeing the integration and modernization of technical environments across multiple platforms. This role provides expert guidance and sets standards for technical teams involved in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure systems. As a Senior Technical Architect, you will ensure that the technology infrastructure supports the organization’s strategic goals and enhances road safety initiatives across British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a computer science related field and three (3) years of *related experience; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer science related field and four (4) years of *related experience; OR
  • Diploma in a computer science related field and five (5) years *related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a computer science related field and six (6) years *related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Related experience includes a minimum of three (3) years in each of the following:

  • Experience managing large IT infrastructure/services projects.
  • Experience leading technical projects, managing resources, and ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Significant experience in evaluating technology options, presenting technical concepts to non-technical partners, and leading technology strategy and implementation.
  • Significant experience leading the design and implementation of enterprise-level technology solutions, including infrastructure and architecture.
  • Experience developing multi-year technology roadmaps and aligning technology strategies with business goals.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) of more of the following: 

  • Experience with major cloud platforms like Kubernetes (OpenShift), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including design, deployment, and management of cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices, including continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Experience designing and managing large-scale, mission-critical systems and applications in a complex organizational environment.
  • Experience working on cross-government initiatives or with multiple government agencies to align technology solutions.
  • Experience developing and implementing business continuity and disaster recovery plans for IT systems.
  • Experience with data management principles, including data governance, data architecture, and data integration.
  • Experience managing relationships with technology vendors and third-party service providers.
  • Experience driving innovation and staying ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Experience with partner engagement, including a history of successfully managing expectations and delivering value to business units.
  • Experience mentoring and developing technical teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Prior experience working within the public sector or familiarity with government processes and regulations.
