The Team
The Financial Operations and Data Integration Gateway (FODIG) team is responsible for modernizing the IT infrastructure powering two ministry’s core business activities. We are constructing a modern, real-time, event-driven microservices architecture to replace a legacy mainframe system, ensuring a flexible, responsive, and scalable assistance programs for all British Columbians.

The Information Services Division is a team of innovative technology leaders providing crucial IM/IT services to both the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction and the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The Role
As a lead developer for a FODIG team, you will be responsible for implementing critical data-brokering services for 70+ boundary systems ensuring over 230,000 British Columbians receive needed support payments every month, and emergency payments when in dire need. The technology you design will be instrumental in ensuring our services to citizens are efficient, transparent, accurate, and timely. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering or related technical field, and minimum three (3) years of related experience as a Full Stack Developer.
  • A comparable Diploma in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering or related technical field, and minimum four (4) years of related experience as a Full Stack Developer.
  • Comparable certification(s) in Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering or related technical field and minimum five (5) years of related experience as a Full Stack Developer.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
     

Related experience may include:
 

  • Developing data-driven web applications using contemporary technology, including languages frameworks, and tools.
  • Developing extensible, responsive user interfaces using contemporary technology.
  • API development and integration and continuous development environments.
  • Containerized development using tools like Docker.

 

Preference may be given to candidates with:
 

  • Experience working in an agile development environment with User Experience (UX)/Service Designer teams, Software Developers, and Scrum Masters to iteratively create or improve digital products and services from conception to production.
  • Experience with Software Development best practices such as: simplicity, coherence, testing, maintenance, and analysis.
  • Experience working directly with project interest holders, users and other non-technical contributors to design software solutions to business problems.
  • Experience with networking solutions – including detailed understanding of protocols, encryption standards and domain name issues.
  • Experience with orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Experience in application deployment to public cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Compute.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until June 30, 2025. This position may be extended.
