Located in the picturesque Fraser Valley, an hour outside of Vancouver, the City of Abbotsford is the fifth-largest municipality in BC with a population of approximately 166,000. The ARHCC provides enhanced and specialized health services to more than 330,000 people in the Fraser Valley region. There are also a number of intermediate and extended care facilities as well as a unique Campus of Care tri-fold medical centre that includes the second BC Children’s Hospital. The City of Abbotsford has an exciting senior leadership opportunity within our Engineering and Regional Utilities Department as the Director of Environmental Services. Reporting to the General Manager of Engineering and Regional Utilities, the Director of Environmental Services is at the forefront of shaping Abbotsford's sustainable future. In this dynamic role, you'll provide strategic leadership and set the course for a wide range of environmental issues, initiatives, policies, and bylaws. You'll be the go-to expert, offering strategic and technical advice to City departments on all things environmental.

Your team will be the driving force behind our sustainability and climate change initiatives, developing a robust corporate climate resilience strategy. You'll oversee the City's solid waste and recycling programs, represent Abbotsford on regional solid waste matters, and manage the source control program for the regional wastewater system. Plus, you'll be our champion for promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship through education.

As our Director, you'll be a collaborative leader, strategic thinker, and problem solver with sound judgment. You'll inspire and motivate a diverse team, fostering a high-performance work environment. Your ability to build consensus on challenging issues and develop partnerships will be key. With your hands-on leadership experience, you'll juggle multiple priorities and drive projects forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills will help you build credible and trusted relationships at all levels throughout the organization and the community.

The successful incumbent will possess a Degree in Engineering, Planning, Environmental Science, Economics, Natural Resource Management, Biology or other related discipline; a Professional Designation and/or Accreditation in your field of expertise; and ten years of progressive related experience with a minimum of five in a senior leadership role.

Salary Range: $159,359 – $188,024
