The Team
The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services team is an established group committed to providing essential mental health services to young people involved in the justice system. The Nanaimo Outpatient Clinic team works closely with probation services, community agencies and contracted service providers, as well as Youth Custody Services staff to deliver Court-ordered assessments and treatments. The Role
As a Community Nurse, you’ll work with multi-disciplinary teams in specialized counseling and therapy. Your work will play a crucial role in shaping effective assessment and treatment services, ultimately supporting the mental health and rehabilitation of young people in the justice system.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized university, and licensed to practice and registered under the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- NOTE: If your degree or diploma was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). Confirmation of equivalency of your degree is required for you to be considered. Please indicate in your resume (include a copy of the approval; if in progress), proof must be provided on or by the closing date of the posting.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in psychiatric nursing.
Preference may be given to:
- Applicants who have two (2) or more years’ experience working with adolescents in a forensic or community mental health setting.
- Applicants who have experience providing a range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
- Applicants who have a master’s degree in nursing or related field.
Willingness Statements:
- May work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
- May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.

This position is part time (42 hours biweekly)
