The Team
The Ministry of Children and Family Development promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in BC. The Ministry is responsible for regional and province wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

The Role
The Roots Practitioner will explore the Indigenous child’s family and community for the purpose of cultural connections, relationships and permanency.  The position is responsible for developing and facilitating programs in order to support cultural connections for children and their families and to promote cultural understanding for caregivers and staff. The Roots Practitioner will work with children, youth, families, child welfare practitioners, external partners, as well as Indigenous Nations and communities, to facilitate connections between young people and their communities.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma/certificate in Human Service or related field plus *related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Related experience must include:

  • Experience working with Indigenous families and communities.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience working with Indigenous children and youth in care.
  • Applicants who have Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available, this position may be able to work up to one or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
