Summary

Lead one of Calgary’s most impactful community institutions into its next chapter

Description

YW Calgary has supported women and families for more than a century. Today, the organization delivers an integrated continuum of housing and shelter, counselling and mental health, childcare and early learning, language and employment services, and community programs—backed by the strength of a respected national YWCA network. With the award‑winning YW Community Hub as an anchor, the YW Crisis Shelter and the YW Taylor Family Home, the YW is scaling coordinated solutions to complex social challenges across the city.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer is the organization’s chief strategist and a trusted public voice. You will steward significant programs and capital assets across a multi‑site, complex multi‑stakeholder environment; transform vision into disciplined execution; and champion measurable outcomes that improve safety, stability, and economic security. You will deepen relationships with community and corporate partners, donors, and all levels of government to unlock policy progress and sustainable resources.
You will ensure sound financial management and enterprise risk oversight. You will expand diversified revenue and philanthropic support, strengthen YW’s advocacy and profile, and uphold transparent governance in partnership with the Board. Equally, you will nurture a healthy, high‑performing culture—coaching leaders, building capacity, and investing in the systems and learning that help people and programs thrive.
About You
You are a values-driven, seasoned executive with a proven leadership track record in the nonprofit, public, or private sectors. You bring insight into the nonprofit landscape through volunteerism, community investment, philanthropy, or donor/funder engagement. You bring business and financial acumen and an entrepreneurial mindset that moves ideas to tangible results. You work collaboratively and influence with humility, mobilizing partners, donors, and funders to create momentum. You are an empowering people leader of diverse teams, a clear and credible communicator, and a relationship‑builder trusted to navigate societal issues. Governance‑literate, you operate with integrity, and authenticity. Your commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation contributes to both your decision-making and outcomes.
Why YW Calgary
Scale, complexity, and purpose converge. YW’s integrated model—linking housing, safety, mental health, and economic opportunity—creates lasting change, supported by major capital assets and the shared learning of a national network. Few roles offer this breadth of platform and the opportunity to influence systems city‑wide.
If you’re ready to build partnerships, energize community, and lead talented people to meaningful results, this is your moment.
