The Northeast Regional Operations Fish and Wildlife Team is a close-knit group of four Wildlife Biologists who bring energy, dedication, and collaboration to their work. This high-functioning team is focused on managing wildlife species in the Northeast through population inventories and adaptive management, while working closely with regional and provincial biologists, ecosystem experts, and engagement teams. The Role:
This Wildlife Biologist position supports the sound management of wildlife populations in Northeast BC through technical reviews under the Wildlife Act, planning and carrying out surveys, and contributing to population monitoring. This work directly supports decision-making processes that affect both the public and key groups across the region. It’s a chance to be part of a cohesive, passionate team while exploring remote areas, working with a range of species, and building meaningful relationships with First Nations and other partners involved in wildlife stewardship. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be registered (or immediately eligible for registration within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) with the BC College of Applied Biologists. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated related experience, including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Experience assessing and monitoring wildlife populations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
  • Experience working with First Nations on wildlife management including projects, strategic initiatives, and collaboration.
  • Experience in managing large game.
  • Experience in interpretation and application of Wildlife Act, and associated policy and regulations.

Provisos:

  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments, including travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Willingness to meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Fort St John.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Fort St John.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
