The Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals (Ministry) is responsible for British Columbia’s mining and mineral exploration sectors. The ministry facilitates mining and mineral exploration that is globally competitive, upholds leading environmental practices, and advances reconciliation with First Nations, while providing opportunities and quality jobs for British Columbians and a fair return on resources to support the province’s priorities. The ministry carries out this work in support of provincial climate policies and programs, as well as commitments to First Nations reconciliation including the Declaration Act Action Plan.
The Mines Competitiveness and Authorizations division manages the exploration and development of British Columbia’s mineral resources, implements policies and programs to encourage investment, support reconciliation and ensure environmental stewardship of the land. The division reviews, approves and regulates mineral exploration and mining projects to enable development, and protect workers, the public and the environment.
The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) position provides leadership in the development, implementation and actions to deliver on mandate priorities and government objectives for the division. They are responsible for developing and implementing mechanisms to track the division’s outcomes, grow provincial geoscience knowledge, maintain strong coordination across Natural Resource Sector permitting partners, and analyze the effectiveness of strategies and operations. As a result of this ongoing analysis, the ADM is responsible to make course corrections to mitigate new challenges and changes in direction.
The ideal candidate for this position has a post secondary degree in a related discipline as well as significant experience at an executive or senior management level within a related sector. They have substantial experience working with the mining and minerals industry, and bring established relationships with industry representatives, First Nations and inter-governmental representatives at all levels to the table. Their experience with the development and implementation of significant strategies with substantial financial, business and economic impacts will serve them well in this role. Experience managing teams of technical experts and navigating complex negotiations is an asset.
This exceptional leader has previous experience representing corporate/government strategies, plans and interests in a variety of settings. They have previously led a diverse, multi-functional workforce that has a proven track record of focusing on outcomes and achieving results. Grounded in integrity, creativity and diplomacy, this individual’s understanding of government operations, policy and legislation and the dynamics of inter-governmental agendas make them an outstanding candidate for this challenging role.
