The Senior Manager, Quality-Assurance and Escalations reports to the AVP of Credit Risk. In this strategic role, the individual is responsible for reviewing and decisioning complex mortgage deals that are outside partner authority limits. The person is also responsible for managing the quality-assurance program to ensure that credit risk, underwriting quality and supporting documentation are within the established thresholds and risk tolerance. The individual works closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide guidance on credit quality and propose areas of improvement to reduce risk, increase efficiency and ensure customer satisfaction. This Senior Manager will share their credit expertise through regular coaching of both their team and stakeholders. The individual will also oversee/participate in forums, meetings, and training sessions regarding credit analysis and quality-assurance.

 

Responsibilities

Credit Decisions

Action underwriting exception requests/escalations passed on to IG from partner.
Maintain accurate, complete records of decisioning and identify improvement opportunities based on these metrics.
Review and provide input on the decisioning of jumbo loan requests, exceptions outside lending guidelines and complex scenarios (i.e., for HNW clients) shared with senior leaders.
Coordinate preparation and presentation of deals requiring consideration by different Credit Committees. Provide recommendations to credit leaders for resolution.
Monitor forms and processes used for credit decisioning; identify and implement enhancements.

 

Quality-Assurance (QA)

Oversee the quarterly quality-assurance program and present results to stakeholders.
Perform ad hoc QA mandate on specific mortgage sub-portfolios.
Plan for mortgage partner audits, act as partner liaison and provide guidance.
Review findings/issues related to credit from any QA, audit or compliance validation and action accordingly.
Understand the audit and compliance requirements of the Mortgage business and the implications of the new mortgage operating model.
Research and stay informed about changing regulatory requirements; adapt QA program work accordingly.

 

Qualification

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field.
5 + years of experience in a mortgage underwriting role, specifically in analysing complex deal/structure and jumbo mortgages.
5 + years of experience in a quality-assurance, audit and/or compliance role.
Expert understanding High-Net-Worth clients, their lending needs and the Advisor relationship.
Comprehensive knowledge of audit methodologies, mortgage underwriting, mortgage products and the regulatory environment.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills particularly when faced with ambiguity.
Ability to assess situations from multiple angles and consider potential risks.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; sense of initiative.
Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Bilingual English/French would be an asset.

The Role 

We are currently looking for a Senior Compensation Specialist reporting to the Director, Compensation to join our IGM Human Resources department as part of either Mackenzie Investments or Investors Group.  This role is an 18-month contract position.

  

Within the Human Resources Department of IGM, the Compensation team works with the Human Resources Business Partners to support the company and its business units to attract, engage, and retain top talent by ensuring competitive compensation packages are offered and excellence in performance is rewarded. The team has overall responsibility for the design, implementation, and maintenance of all compensation programs. 

  

As a valued member of the Compensation team your core responsibilities will include: 

Provide program and operational support for the execution of IGM’s compensation programs. 

Participate in the development of (and) maintain analytical models to support the costing and analysis of compensation programs.

Manage and deliver the end-to-end submission process for assigned compensation surveys.

Analyze the results of compensation surveys, highlighting trends and other insights.

Play a key role in delivering the annual and ad hoc competitive analysis of our compensation programs.

Develop and maintain Leader resources and job aids.

Coordinate the development and distribution of employee and Leader communications. 

Assist in the continuous improvement of compensation programs by researching market trends and analyzing compensation survey data.  

Provide support for the annual year end compensation planning process. 

Participate in process design and documentation to increase efficiencies in the management of compensation programs. 

Participate in the testing, implementation and ongoing maintenance of compensation tools and technology. 

Support the compensation managers and director on various ad-hoc projects as required.

 

Qualifications:  

University degree in business administration or related discipline 

2-4 years of relevant work experience in compensation 

Proficient in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills). 

Strong analytical skills and ability to manage large amounts of data  

Strong attention to detail  

The ability to work independently and actively participate in teamwork 

General knowledge of Human Resources practices & policies is an asset 

Experience providing support for sales compensation plans is an asset
