The Role
The District Operations Technician focuses on managing signs and road closures, ensuring safe and efficient roadways for all users. As part of a supportive and collaborative team, this position offers a great opportunity to grow your skills and take the next step in your career. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with 2 years of related experience*; OR
  • Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of BC) in a related** field of study and a minimum of 1 year related** experience; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related** field of study and a minimum of 6 months related** experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
  • Must hold a maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

*Related experience includes the following:

  • Experience in highway operations, construction supervision, andor maintenance.
  • Experience in managing projects and/or project components (procurement processes).
  • Experience with contract administration.
  • Experience working with a financial forecasting system managing a budget.

**Related field of study includes:

  • Civil or structural engineering
  • Construction technology
  • Surveying
  • Geology
  • Geography resource management
  • Geographic information systems
  • Project management
  • other relevant fields of study

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with 3 years of related experience
  • Completed 3/6 courses (one course must be AMRC 2016 MOT Highway Maintenance Agreement) from the Road Area Manager, BCIT program.
  • Experience using Survey123.
  • Ministry of Transportation experience

Provisos

  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions and emergency situations affecting the Highway System.
  • May be required to travel to remote locations within the Vancouver Island District
  • May be required to work extended hours due to emergencies.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
