The Team:
The Integrated Environmental Enforcement Unit (IEEU) is a specialized and established team within the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, dedicated to addressing complex, resource-intensive or sensitive environmental enforcement cases across the province. Comprised of a Section Head and three Environmental Enforcement Officers, this team uses their technical expertise in environmental protection and investigative skills to uphold the Environmental Management Act and the Integrated Pest Management Act. They work closely with other resource sector enforcement agencies, the RCMP, and Conservation Officers, playing a critical role in prosecuting and penalizing significant environmental crimes.

The Role:
As an Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will lead or participate in multiple environmental investigations at once, managing major case files and preparing judicial authorizations to ensure thorough, fair enforcement of environmental laws. Your work will directly contribute to holding offenders accountable, helping to protect the environment and support approved practices in regulated industries. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in resource management, environmental science, compliance and enforcement, or applied science in an appropriate discipline, and two (2) years of related experience in the field of waste management OR compliance and enforcement; or,
  • Technical Diploma in resource management, environmental science, compliance and enforcement, or applied science in an appropriate discipline, and three (3) years of related experience in the field of waste management OR compliance and enforcement.
  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Related experience must include one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience with the interpretation and application of environmental legislation in a regulatory context.
  • Experience in compliance management or enforcement.
  • Industrial and municipal waste management experience, including conducting environmental monitoring, assessments, inspections and reporting.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience using computer software, including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel) and database management.
  • Experience working with multiple projects or assignments.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in liaising with environmental law enforcement agencies.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience writing reports to Crown Counsel, applying for and executing judicial authorization, and using investigative techniques in the natural resource sector.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience with criminal or quasi-criminal investigations.

These positions can be based in one of the following locations: Surrey, Vancouver, Prince George, Kamloops, Penticton, Kelowna, Williams Lake, Nelson.
These positions require province-wide travel.
Flexible work options are available; these positions may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
